Easton Mako M7 Skates Reviewed
If you don’t want to crush your wallet on a top end skate, but are looking to get maximum performance for the money, the Easton Mako M7 Skates just might do the trick. Like its high end big brother, the Mako II, the Mako M7 looks to bring an unrestricted natural movement in which players are able to get the most out of their stride. One skate in these and you’ll understand that Easton hasn’t cut any corners and looks to have achieved their goal without sacrificing major features. Let’s take a few strides into the Mako M7.
The Marquette Study
Easton underwent a study at Marquette University to better understand the dynamics of skating and the motions that it involves. Further, the effect of skate design on skating performance in general. The results of this study uncovered that players skating in Mako skates were conclusively faster overall and took less strides to cover the same distance. Versus other skates, the Mako’s performed better with decreases in ankle range of motion and an increase in stride width. This means longer, larger strides, with an increase in speed over the distance covered.
Natural Movement
The major focal point of the M7 and Mako skates in general, is to provide the player with the most natural skating motion possible. Easton accomplishes this feat through the design of their ‘Extendon’ system, which is a flexible tendon guard designed to move with the skater.
The use of a Dual Density tongue allows for a longer stride and more contact surface with the ice. This allows for a more efficient skating stride along with an increase in power and speed. Included in the tongue is the TPU insert to protect against lace bite for added comfort.
Monocoque Chassis
Like the Mako II, the M7 utilizes the M1 Monocoque holder design. This essentially is a 3D composite structure that is more rigid, enhancing load transfer to the ice leading to better explosive acceleration. Creating the foundation for the Monocoque holder is the ‘Tru-Fit Last’ system that delivers a truly anatomical fit with a reduction in negative space – leading to a better overall fit, increased comfort, and more explosive power.
The skates feature a molded Ankle Lock and Conform Edge collar design, further reinforcing the overall anatomical design. This makes sure your ankle is securely locked into place at all times during gameplay.
Runner
With an aggressively pitched forward design, the skate features the R9 steel. The nine (9) foot radius runner helps drive the force from the runner into the ice for an explosive start and an increase in reaction time. Also putting power to the ice is the CXN holder specifically tuned for the composite bootform design of Mako Skates.
Overall, Easton has done an unbelievable job in providing players with a skate at a mid-level price point that has excellent performance, fit, and durability. With the anatomical design of the skate itself, players can expect an unmatched fit unlike other skates on the market. The mold ability offers an out of box fit custom fit that is currently unmatched on the market.
