CCM RIBCOR 50K Goal Skate Review
It’s a new era for CCM as all of the Reebok equipment we’ve come to know will fall under the CCM name. This April 2016, CCM will revive the cult classic Pump skate with the RIBCOR 50K goal skate. Gathering feedback from their NHL goalies, CCM has designed the 50K skate with a better Pump, quarter package and cowling than ever before. The end result is increased power, flexibility and range of motion (ROM) for their goalies.
The CCM RIBCOR 50K is the revival of the Reebok Pump technology. CCM’s first skates, the RBZ’s, didn’t offer the Pump and it seemed like the idea of it was dwindling away. Instead, CCM has designed the most efficient Pump to date. The 50K’s pump requires less pumping to lock in the ankle, and has a more secure air bladder. This is great because many goalies would over pump and force excessive air pressure into the air bladder, resulting in the Pump to break. Now, less is more and you can get an even more personalized fit for your ankle.
The quarter package of the 50K features pro ribbed reinforcements to offer better flexion. The ribbings in the quarter package allow for better flexion and gives off better energy transfer when making pushes.
Inside the boot is dual zone tacky Nash and Clarino liner. The Clarino keeps the foot dry, throughout play, and also quickens the drying process. The Nash portion of the liner increases the foot’s grip in the skate; Nash is a soft material, but becomes slightly adhesive when it is damp. The Nash is strategically placed in the Achilles tendon portion of the skate, to combat your heel slipping out of the boot.
The RIBCOR 50K also features the common Reebok featured skate-lock. The skate-lock divides the laces, making it easier to get a tighter feel in your skates.
This year’s lineup of CCM skates will continue on with their newly designed Prolite GS cowlings. This cowling follows the new trend that was started by Bauer, and eliminates plastic from the inside of the boot. The cowling’s only purpose now is to hold the steel, rather than protect the foot while making saves. A great benefit from this cowling is the greater attack angle. Now, the degree to which you need to raise your knee to make a push in the crease has been decreased, and shaves off time for you to get from point A to B. The cowling is also structurally supported by carbon inserts.
The Prolite GS cowling’s design makes for a shorter blade, compared to the older Reebok cowling. This is ideal, because ‘C’ cuts are easier to make on a shorter blade. The runner for the RIBCOR 50K is made of high grade 4mm stainless steel, which provides a long life time and preferred for constant sharpening.
The RIBCOR 50K will be CCM’s new high-end skate, and will have two mid-level models in the 44K and 40K skates. If you’re in the market for new skates, the CCM RIBCOR line will be in stores April, 2016!
