CCM Super Tacks AS2 Pro Hockey Stick Review
This year’s model of the Super Tacks stick comes in the form of the AS2 Pro. Much of the same thought process of designing the AS1 went into the AS2 Pro. This year’s edition is still a beast of a stick when it comes to durability and power. Aggressive shooters love this stick due to the shot power generated through the mid kick point. Usually, the general perception about something that is durable and powerful is that the same thing must be heavy in order to be so rugged. This is not the case with the AS2. Amazingly, CCM has this stick weighing in at a miniscule 410 grams for a senior, and to help further, the higher balance point of the stick makes it feel more like 400 grams once in your hands. Let’s take a deeper look into some of the technology CCM has implemented into various other aspects of the AS2 Pro.
X- Flow Shaft Technology
We all know that the hardest shot is not always the best shot if you can’t hit the net. However, with the redesigned shaft taper on the AS2 Pro, the shooter will experience deadly accuracy due to new shaft technology that prevents any twisting or torqueing during a booming blast.
Similar to this years Trigger 4 Pro from CCM, the AS2 Pro is also using the advanced molding X-Flow Technology when it comes to shaft construction. This technology eliminates excess resin and voids for an improved shaft quality. Simply put, this technology takes more carbon fiber and much less glue to mold the shaft together while also increasing the strength-to-weight ratio of the stick.
Max Loading Mid Kick Point
The speared one-piece construction for the AS2 Pro allowed CCM to manipulate different parts of the stick with varied stiffnesses. What this has created is a Max Loading Mid Kick Point, where the mid-section of the stick is soft and allows for a longer loading period creating more energy behind the shot. To capitalize on all that stored energy, the taper zone all the way to the tip of the blade is stiffer to ensure that energy transfers directly to the puck and isn’t wasted.
The ACU4 XX-Stiff Blade has been reinforced at the heal and toe to avoid an over-torqued feel that could cause a loss in accuracy. The stiffness helps the blade keep its shape when following through on a powerful shot – therefore keeping the puck moving towards your aimpoint. The ACU4 XX-Stiff Blade also features a tactile surface that gives the shooter maximum feel and shot control.
Sigmatex Spread Tow
Developed for CCM specifically by a leader in aerospace technology, Sigmatex Spread Tow is being used in all elite tier sticks for the brand. Since the Trigger 2, CCM has used Sigmatex technology in all three CCM stick lines because it makes the sticks particularly lightweight while still amazingly strong. What more could you ask for from this high-tension weaving process?
Final Thoughts
If you’ve always been a fan of mid-kickpoint sticks or are looking to make a change to one… the AS2 Pro is one of the best options available to you. The higher balance point makes the stick feel great in your hands, and the soft mid section of the shaft is extremely responsive when shooting. You will notice an immediate difference when taking slap shots with the stiff taper zone and heel to toe stiffness of the blade allowing that energy transfer to increase your puck velocity – your shot will be harder, and more accurate….plain and simple. One last bonus – the black and yellow graphics are still looking as good as ever after getting a slight tweak from last years AS1. Swing by the shop to check out this years AS2 Pro for yourself.
