Intro & New Features
New for 2024 is the SLR4 Youth blocker from Vaughn. This blocker offers the developing goalie an opportunity to feel and look just like the pros in their gear. The blocker is built easy to use for young goaltenders and it’s great for introducing them to the game and the net.
External Material
The SLR4 blocker uses classic jenpro synthetic leather on the exterior. Jenpro is well-known for its superior durability and performance. The tapered top board makes wrist movements easier, and the tapered bottom edge supports paddle down maneuvers. The top blocking board is angled to help the goalie control rebounds and where the puck will go.
Internal Construction
The inside of the blocker is made of high-density foam for good blocking and to deaden impact force as it reaches your hand. The use of HD foam also makes the blocker very lightweight.
Palm Material
Vaughn integrated VX Suede in the palm to add superior comfort for the developing goalie. VX Suede is velvety, memory foam-like, and exactly what the pros use—ensuring young goalies can enjoy the game and stick to it longer. The palm’s materials also make it more durable, meaning the blocker can survive through the goalie’s early development days.
Side Hand Protection
The SLR4 features a stiff and lightweight side shield to protect that side of the hand. In addition, the SLR4 offers full finger protection, with a guard above the finger pads and one along the index finger, securing small hands from injury.
Cuff
Like the rest of the blockers in the SLR4 series, the youth blocker uses a flex cuff design to allow for better freedom of movement when making saves. The adjustable wrist strap makes it easy for young players to fix the size of the wrist to whatever size they feel comfortable with.
Hand Protection
The SLR4 has an air-cushioned backhand shock pad for extra protection when blocking the puck, in addition to all the side hand protection. Small hands are delicate, and the youth version of this blocker has been adjusted with extra padding to keep kids safe and secure while they play.
Colors & Customization
The Vaughn Ventus SLR4 Youth Goalie Blocker comes in White/Black colouration and Right and Full Right hands.

Goalie Blockers Sizing
More times than not, the fit of your Goalie Blocker is often overlooked. This is likely the result of the limited size availability compared to other pieces of equipment, however a properly sized Blocker provides you the protection and stick control you trust.
Which Blocker Size is for you?
The first step to finding the correct Blocker size is to utilize the “heel-of-palm-to-tip-of-middle-finger” measurement. This measurement will generally send you to the appropriate size you need.
Analyzing the Blocker Fit
It is important to ensure that the fingers tips lie close to the seam of the palm, or within 0.5” if the Blocker is for a young growing goaltender. Next you want to ensure the adjustable wrist strap goes directly across the wrist bone, and has minimal to no interference with your chest protector. The goaltender should be able to swivel their wrist to accommodate a range of save selections without any restrictions from the chest protector. You also want to ensure that the goalie can maintain control of their stick in addition to being able to maneuver the blocker when handling the puck.
Which Hand Do I Need?
Figuring out which hand you need for your Blocker can be slightly confusing. Goalies generally refer to themselves as "REGULAR" or "FULL RIGHT". Below is the easiest way to simplify which hand you need.
- Blocker Hands Simplified
- Regular - Blocker worn on your Right Hand
- Full Right - Blocker worn on your Left Hand
