New for 2022 from CCM is the updated Tacks protective line. The Tacks 580 shoulder pads have been updated with the new Tacks gold graphics and offer great protection with their Anatomical Shield Design, ADPTFit, Vent-Tech, and Flexmotion construction.

Shoulder Caps & Protection
The JDP-injected caps offer max protection and comfort. They are built to move and adjust with you to shield against impact, and their build works to disperse force away from the impact point for additional security.

Sternum Protection
The Tacks AS 580 shoulder pads are equipped with multiple layers of protection over the torso and sternum. The Vent-Tech floating sternum hybrid shield provides both aeration and a high degree of coverage. In addition, molded mid-density EVA foam keeps the torso area highly comfortable and protective.

Spine Protection
The spine is covered with a compress-molded spine cap. The spine cap offers competitive-level security for those looking to play tougher hockey.

Bicep Protection
The biceps are covered with mid-density foam padding and are height-adjustable. Straps at the top near the shoulder caps allow the bicep pads to be fixed to whatever size you’re looking for.

Liner
The AS 580 uses a sublimated comfort liner for quality comfort and protection. The liners have good airflow and are designed to keep you cool and dry throughout the whole game.

Abdominal Protection Piece
The AS 580 does come with a removable and adjustable abdominal protection piece, attached with velcro.

Sizes
The Tacks AS 580 Junior shoulder pads come in Small, Medium, and Large sizes.

Player Shoulder Pad Sizing

Sizing before Purchase

To fit for a properly sized shoulder pad, you will need a soft tape measurer to measure and record your chest measurement. To do this, find the widest point of your chest (usually just below your armpits) and measure the circumference. Record the measurement in inches and compare to the available sizing charts in each brand. Also compare your height, weight and age to find your best fit.

Sizing after Purchase

Once you have received your new shoulder pad, stand in front of a mirror and strap them on. You will want to check the follow criteria to ensure a proper and protective fit.

1. The tips of your shoulder are sitting directly under the middle of the shoulder cap. If you are checking sizing for a child, it is ok for the tips of their shoulder to be under the inner half of the cap.

  • This is important because if the shoulder cap does not sit in the correct position, your clavicles, shoulders, and upper arms can become more susceptible to injury.
2. The bicep guards are positioned maximum halfway down the upper arm.
  • Adjust the bicep guards using the Velcro straps located underneath the shoulder caps (if applicable). At the highest point, the bicep guards should not be more than halfway down the upper arm. This is important because they can interfere with your elbow pads, throwing off the fit.

If you are checking sizing for a child, it is ok for the tips of their shoulder to be under the inner half of the cap and not directly in line with the middle.
