The CCM RIBCOR 88K INT Hockey Skates are a performance level skate one step down from the 90k. The 88k offers many of the same features and performance attributes but in a more affordable package. Some key features to look out for in the new 88k is the 2-piece Metaframe boot, ADPT memory foam ankle pads, Asymmetrical XS Dual Layer Tongue, and CCM’s patented Speedblade XS quick release holder with bladelock system.

Skate Fit Profile

CCM has followed suit within the industry and made their skates more accessible to different foot shapes and profiles. Like the 90k, the 88k will be stepping away from D, EE widths, and be using regular, and wide fit profiles. The new fit system is a result of the most common shapes amongst the 3D Scan system CCM introduced a couple of years ago.

Boot Construction & Stiffness Profile

The quarter package on the CCM 88k features Metaframe technology. This technology is infused into the RFM composite boot which is an NHL-caliber lightweight composite material. The 88k also features a concave reinforced injection outsole with an exhaust system. This keeps the boot lightweight, and provides better energy transfer while the exhaust system wicks moisture out of the boot.

The Ribcore boot will continue to have a softer stiffness level amongst CCM families. This promotes quick movements and increases range of motion to maximize your overall agility on the ice. CCM’s stiffness performance index indicates the 88k has a 150 variable index. This index allows the flexible core of the boot to enhance your biomechanics with every stride. This, paired with the smooth contour soft pad around the top of the boot will provide excellent foot and ankle comfort.

Liner & Internal Padding

The liner in the Ribcore 88k is the HD Microfiber liner. This performance liner is moisture-wicking which keeps your feet dry and your skates light. The liner is also high resistance to wear, which increases the lifetime of the boot while still delivering major comfort.

The internal padding features an adapted memory foam to provide a comfortable wrap around the fit and to optimize the comfort of the skate. The injected smooth contour pad at the top of the boot provides additional comfort in a potential high pressure point area.

Tongue

Another key upgrade new to the CCM Ribcore 88k is the Replaceable Asymmetrical Dual Layer tongue. It consists of 7mm felt, with reinforcement layers for increased comfort and protection.

However, the tongues are interchangeable on the new Ribcore 88k skates to allow a more customized fit and protection level. The available replacement options, or custom options are the Pro tongue with 10mm black felt, and the Lightweight 4mm tongue.

Insoles

The CCM Ortholite footbed in the 88k is a lightweight insole to provide maximum comfort and support for your arches.

Lacing System

The Ribcore line continues with the standard eyelet lacing system. The top eyelets are also reinforced for increased durability.

Steel Runner, Holder & Blade Profile

For the Ribcore 88k, the stock steel will be the XS Stainless Steel. This blade provides a long-lasting edge for long-term performance.

The CCM Speedblade XS is mounted on the 88k skates, offering the sturdy quick release system that has become a staple amongst the top end players around the world.

Hockey Player Skate Sizing Guide

When sizing for the correct size of a skate, we always advise taking the measurements below from a sitting position and not standing upright. Additional weight on your foot/feet can skew your result and misrepresent your foot size. The reason for this is that as you put your full weight on your feet, the arch of your foot will collapse and cause your foot to appear wider or longer than it actually is.

As well, please be aware that skate sizes and shoes sizing do not match exactly. As a general guideline, skates size 1 ½ sizes smaller than shoes.

It is ideal for a player to have a tight, snug fit both in length and width as this will provide the best performance and durability. If a skate is too big you will feel your feet slide around and you will not get the full performance out of the skates and can also develop calcium deposits - Haglund’s Deformity or “Bauer Bumps” for lack of a better term although this issue doesn’t only occur with Bauer models.

An Ideal Fit: Stand with your skates laced and your heel snug in the heel cup. Your toes should just barely feather the end of the toe box. Bend forward into a skating stance. Your toes should pull back slightly from the toe box. Once heat fit, your foot should slide back into the foams of the skate and the length you felt in your skating stance will more-or-less become you standing size.

To obtain the measurement above you will need a soft tape measure and a pen. Start by placing the tape measure flat along the ground in a straight line. Sitting in a chair, place your foot down with the longest point of your foot (usually big toe, or second toe) in line with the edge of the tape measure. Make sure you keep your weight off of your foot. Take a pen and mark the tape measure where the edge of your heel ends. Record this length in cm. This measurement will correspond with the sizing charts in each brand below, if you do not see your exact measurement, select the size with the next size increment above your measurement (i.e. you measure 24.9 cm, you would select 25.1 cm or Size 6).

Sizing Children for Growth Room: If you are purchasing skates for your child, it is common and usually recommended to add some additional room in the skate to increase the last, we recommend no more than 1 full size. Feet stop growing around ages 15 – 15 ½, and from ages 14 - 15 ½ we would recommend adding only half (1/2) a size in length. Follow the same measurement instructions as above, once you obtain your true size move up ½ or 1 size.

***Sizing of skates is very preference based and these measurements will not guarantee a fit that is right for you. Please use these as general guidelines, for the most accurate fit we always recommend getting measured by a professional skate fitter at our store or your local pro shop.***
