Bauer keeps their pants consistent by only adding minor upgrades and improvements to the Vapor X2.9 goal pants. Between the lightweight build, the 11 inch barrel width and their inner belt, these pants are perfect if you want to be big and mobile. Using HD foams and ThermoMax, Bauer makes a comfortable and light pant while also having a comfortable price tag.

External Material
Bauer uses their ThermoMax liner to make the pants fit and feel comfy while also keeping you cool on the ice. ThermoMax is designed to cool your body down while still being soft and comfortable to wear. The other material used on the outside of the Bauer X2.9 is a nylon type fabric to improve durability. Bauer also uses a material similar to C.O.R.Tech in high wear areas such as the bottom of the pants.

Fit
Designed to be more of a tapered fit, the Bauer X2.9 pants are a similar shape and fit to the original X900 goal pants. The fit in the pants aims to be very loose in the leg to prevent any sort of interference, the X2.9 pants then begin to taper in before becoming wide at the top again providing the option to tuck your chest protector.

Waist Closure & Internal Belt
The Vapor goal pants are very simple to put on because they only have one main strap. The pants run the innerbelt through the front of the pants in order to tighten up the pants with only one strap. The Fast Strap, first used on the X900 Chest and Pants, is designed to be tugged tight and pulled upwards to release, resulting in a simple set up system that is comfortable and quick. The innerbelt on the X2.9 pants is also able to be removed and set up completely on the outside, in order to conform to certain league rules that ban the use of inner belts. Lastly, the Vapor X2.9 inner belt uses ThermoMax to increase the comfort of these pants.

Hip Protection
The hips use a similar style of protection that the elbows do on the X2.9 chest protector. Using the Dynamic 2.Flex system, the hips have 2 layers of protection that move without interfering with each other, allowing you to move any direction and remain protected.

Groin Protection
The Bauer X2.9 goal pants have great groin protection, wrapping the barrel almost entirely around the front face of your leg and the majority of the groin. The use of HD foams is designed to make the X2.9 pants more protective and allow them to keep their form longer.

Thigh Protection
The thigh protection is great on these pants, the use of HD foams allows the pants to be protected without making them heavier or bulkier. This foam ensure great protection for a great price.

Knee Pad Attachment
The pants do have a knee pad attachment, although it is only designed for the Vapor 1X specific knee pads. Using a loop on the interior of the pant, any knee pads that attach similarly would work although 1X knee pads are the idea choice.

Sizes & Colors
These pants are available in sizes Small through Large and only available in black.

Bauer Intermediate Goal Pant Sizing Chart

Large 30” – 32” 76 – 81 cm

Goalie Pants Sizing

Goalie pants offer substantially more protection than their player counterparts: the hips are reinforced with high-density foam instead of a thin layer of nylon/elastic, the thighs of a goal pant are usually squared off for coverage purposes and made with thick plastic and foam while the waist is also beefed up to protect vital organs. Lastly, the way the two pants move is even different: player pants are designed to move back and forth while goal pants are more effective for lateral movements.

Properly sized goal pants are the difference between having your chest protector ride up and seamless integration for unrestricted movement. After all, they do connect the biggest pieces of gear a goaltender wears—their chest/arm and leg pads.

The first step is to approximate the size using the sizing charts listed on any individual goal pant’s product page on our website. Usually this is accomplished by matching a waist to a given size. Sometimes companies (ex. Vaughn) will list an oversized waist; you can match your size by adding 8” – 10” to your measured size to effectively use the chart. Matching up waist sizes exactly isn’t always necessary. It is very common for goalies to wear pants that are wider to increase net coverage, mobility and comfort.

Unlike player pants, the goalie version isn’t necessarily always worn directly on the waist. It is very common for goaltenders to wear their pants high on the waist (oversized) with suspenders, or so low and loose (undersized) that the leg pads are the only things holding them in place. After deciding which one feels more comfortable for your playing style, it is important that the pant is sized such that they terminate above the kneecap—leaving ample room for the knee wing of the leg pad to rest on the inside edge of the knee.

Another thing to consider is if the goalie wears his/her chest protector tucked into the pant or outside. If you’re the former, a pant with an internal belt, non-tapered waist and bigger size is going to accommodate the extra bulk from the chest/arm. On the other hand, if you’re wearing the chest protector on the outside, a tapered waist is going to reduce interference and improve feel.

Lastly, it is crucial to ensure that the pant works well with additional knee protection and the leg pads as well. We recommend trying everything on at once to make sure there is limited interference and that there is enough space in the thigh cradle (inside the pant’s leg) for knee protection to reside without overly restricting movement.
