The Bauer Vapor 2X Intermediate catch glove makes it clear that Bauer is looking to improve their more affordable gear to be similar to the pro model with minor changes. Staying comfortable with a one piece glove and 60-degree break angle, adding a max depth pocket, this glove is comfortable to use right off the shelf.
External Material Bauer uses their synthetic leather with C.O.R.Tech skin on the new Vapor 2X Pro catcher. This promotes harder, faster rebound than normal blocker skin. Having used this technology for the past few years, Bauer is confident it gives goalies the edge they need over the competition. This technology works by having a faster recovery rate than other skin types, the faster the recovery, the faster and harder the puck will come off.
Break Angle The glove stays comfortable and consistent with a 60 degree break, same as what was used on the 1X. This angle used by Bauer is more of a finger-close style, meaning when closing the glove, it is almost all in the fingers, this allows the glove to be more protective on the palm and minimize the amount of stingers you’ll get because of added Curv Composite.
Pocket Design The new Bauer 2X Catcher has gone back to the single T design, different from the split T on the 1X and the double T on the 2S promoting the glove to close faster and easier. Bauer has also created a new max depth pocket to allow the glove to trap and keep any pucks sent its way with ease.
Strapping The strapping now has Bauer's Fast Strap system allowing the user to quickly tighten their glove for maximum comfort and control.
Cuff Design The new Vapor 2X goalie glove is meant to be more comfortable and easier to use by having their free flex back hand, this allows playing the puck easier while also allowing more mobility in general.
Colors The glove comes in a range of colours including white, red, blue and navy.

Goalie Catch Gloves Sizing
More times than not, trappers are often overlooked compared to other pieces of gear where fit is concerned. Perhaps this is a result of the limited sizes available compared to other pieces of equipment: youth, junior, intermediate and senior. The first step to finding the correct trapper is to approximate your size by following the estimated age range and “heel-of-palm-to-tip-of-middle-finger” measurement:
*8” – 8.5” would constitute an XL palm on a senior trapper
Once a size has been estimated it is important to ensure that the palm lines up properly within the catching glove so that it can be closed without excessive force. Obviously new gloves will be difficult to close initially, but through either using it repeatedly or baking it with our in-house convection skate ovens they will soften up and allow the goaltender to easily close. We do not recommend using any conventional in-home ovens, as the results have been very unpredictable in the past.
After you’ve checked the palm, the second thing to look for is that the wrist strap goes directly across your wrist bone and has little to no interference with the chest/arm. The catch glove should be able to twist and maneuver in a multitude of save selections in addition to being able to grip the stick when puck handling, all the while keeping the hand in the correct position within the trapper.
For growing goaltenders, it is still best to stick within these guidelines rather than moving up to the next size to accommodate growth. Large gloves are going to inhibit the goalie’s control and inhibit development. It should be noted that as a result of the limited size selection, goalies wouldn’t jump sizes as quickly as other pieces of gear.
