Intro & New Features
With the Prodigy line expanding into 2024, we see the launch of the Bauer Prodigy Youth Chest & Arm Protector. Made specifically for young goalies, this chest protector features dual-density foam for protection, improved sternum coverage, and a thickened cushioned nylon wrap on the outside of the pad for a clean look.
External Material
In order to provide optimal breathability and durability, the Bauer Prodigy chest exterior is made of mesh and nylon, which keeps players cool during vigorous play. Its Thermomax+ lining improves comfort and hygiene for goaltenders to concentrate on their game by controlling temperature, wicking away moisture, and combating odors and bacteria.
Internal Foams
Dual-density foams are incorporated into the Bauer Prodigy chest, demonstrating the brand's dedication to providing excellent protection without sacrificing weight. These foams achieve the ideal balance between offering dependable impact protection and keeping the chest light for maximum dexterity on the ice.
Shoulder Caps
The Prodigy chest features a sewn-in shoulder cap made of a combination of foam and hard plastic. This combination keeps goalies safe during intense gameplay by providing robust protection against impacts and durability.
Adjustable Arms
The Bauer Prodigy chest's arms have sewn-in construction for extreme resilience and are made to be both versatile and long-lasting. Goaltenders can adjust the arm length with Bauer's Velcro strap, even though it is sewn in, for maximum comfort and protection, guaranteeing a perfect fit on the ice.
Elbow Caps

Goalie Chest Protector Sizing
Sizing a chest protector is important to ensure the goaltenders range of motion is uninhibited, while still offering complete coverage from impact. There are steps necessary to finding the right fit in your chest protector, and the first is to know your measurements. Here at The Hockey Shop, we like to use two measurements: torso length and arm span. Once you have these two measurements, match your measurements to our sizing charts.
Sizing your Chest Protector
After receiving your chest protector, you are going to want to check if the size fits the following criteria:
- 1. The arms end just before your wrist. This is important because you want to ensure that the wrist portion of the arms do not interfere with your blocker and catcher—this still provides adequate growing room for the blocker and trapper, which usually last you 1 to 2 years. Depending on the model, adjustable arms may be an offered feature, which is an added bonus for goaltenders that are still growing.
2. Your elbows fit securely in to the pocket of the elbow protection, and do not shift too far away from them. Keep in mind, arms usually have to be adjusted while putting on your chest & arm. Use the adjustable arm features where given to give you an optimal fit.
3. Make sure the shoulders of the chest & arm are sitting comfortably atop, and wrapped around your shoulders. This can be seen visually by looking at the collar of the chest & arm. You want the collar to sit slightly above your clavicle, but not too high that it interferes with the bottom of your goalie mask.
