A Lefevre History Lesson…

Lefevre began in 1967 in the small Quebec city of Terrebonne. The founder, Michel Lefebvre, began by creating goalie masks which provided the Lefebvre name with its early success and years later transitioned to making leg pads as well as catchers and blockers. In the 1980s Hall of Fame Goaltender, Patrick Roy became the first NHL Goalie to wear The Lefevre Brand (The trademark of Lefevre does not include the “b” that is found in the family name) the gear was made in the basement of their family home and the leg pads were sewn together by Michel’s wife, Diane.

The gear began growing and becoming more and more popular with more NHL goalies using their gear but in the early 1990s, the NHL began to require companies to pay for the visible branding of their gear in the league, these charges imposed on Lefevre’s ability to produce gear for the NHL.

In the 1992-1993 season, following these changes, Patrick Roy began wearing Koho pads. However, after losing his last five games of the year, Roy looked to Lefevre to help him. The Lefebvre family had begun to completely rebuild their leg pads while utilizing the Koho name.

After receiving Lefevre’s new and improved gear Roy had made a historic prediction when he stated: "With that, I'm going to win the Stanley Cup!”. With the success of the Lefevre gear under the Koho name, Koho entrusted Lefevre with the production of all of their goalie gear. Koho was later acquired by “The Hockey Company” a.k.a. CCM and was branded under the name “Reebok” from 2004 to 2015. Many goalies such as Marc-Andre Fleury and Roberto Luongo utilized the Reebok “Powered By Lefevre” gear.

At the beginning of 2015 “The Hockey Company” began phasing out the Reebok name by creating new gear under the CCM name. Due to Lefevre’s craftsmanship and understanding of goalie gear, CCM continued working closely with the family from Terrebonne.

Over the coming years, CCM and Lefevre became a powerhouse creating the hugely successful E-FLex line and Premier line. “Powered by Lefevre” holds a lot of technology and success stories. Many advancements of goalie equipment today are due to Lefevre and there is no sign of that stopping.

The end of Lefevre and CCM’s partnership came in late 2019 after both companies were unable to come to a mutual agreement. That didn't stop Lefevre, and they continued to produce elite-level gear solo, coming out with four different lines of pads at the beginning of March of 2020. Many fans noticed during the 2019-20 playoffs many NHL goalies began wearing Lefevre-designed gear. Goalies from all different brands began testing and using Lefevre gear in games or practices showcasing how important the Lefevre brand quality and craftsmanship is to athletes and consumers.

Due to the success of this new avenue into the goalie market, TRUE Hockey wanted to carry their success into the goalie world and began by acquiring the immensely popular custom skate brand VH Skates in 2016. Since 2016, TRUE goal skates have become the most popular skates worn by NHLers, with over 65% of current NHL Goalies wearing their custom skate, TRUE has already shown the impact they've made in the Goalie industry.

The TRUE Lefevre gear has already become hugely popular in the NHL with many goalies such as 2019-2020’s Vezina Trophy Winner Connor Hellybuyck, Carey Price, and Carter Hart, just to name a few, all wearing their gear and many more switching.

The main attraction that TRUE Lefevre brings to the table is that it’s handmade in Canada by one of the most famous names in goalie gear and is backed up by decades of research and technology all utilized to create elite level gear.
