Like to dangle? Then maybe the CCM RIBCOR Reckoner is the stick for you. Out of the big three, CCM’s latest arrival is the update to the RIBCOR family. Early on ice thoughts from our staff say it’s an explosive stick with excellent puck feel, and the fellas are giving it the stamp of approval. Let’s take an in-depth look at the RIBCOR Reckoner shall we?
PopMatrix Construction
For 2015 CCM has opted to redesign the traditional RIBCOR design in favor of what they’re calling ‘PopMatrix Technology’. CCM insists that this change will bring about maximizing the performance of the carbon fibers within the shaft. PopMatrix in a nutshell, represents the fibers being in constant tension for faster loading and a quicker release. They weren’t wrong about maximizing performance, as I felt a noticeable difference in the power of my shot when trying to get the puck off as quick as possible.
TECHNORA
For increased durability over the competition, CCM uses Technora Reinforcement which is an Aramid fiber that provides great strength and performance without sacrificing an ounce of durability. You can expect constant pop and accuracy throughout the lifespan of the stick, without the endless worry of someone two-handing you across the shaft.
Ascent Blade
New to the RIBCOR is what CCM calls the ‘Ascent Blade’ and the name is an accurate description of the technology underneath the hood. It’s not only lighter than the previous SXX2 Blade, but it provides an even better feel for the puck as the heel is softer – ascending to an increase in stiffness to the toe of the blade. Translation – a quicker release throughout various types of shots.
Tradition
The RIBCOR Reckoner will feature that same great Low Kick Point for that quick, goalie-fooling release that has been a staple in the RIBCOR family. On top of that the stick loads effortlessly so you can get the most out of your shot and the stick itself.
Reckoner also features a power taper ratio of 3:1 where vertical stiffness is increased so less energy is wasted when it transfers through the shaft, into the blade, and ultimately onto the puck. Coupled with that Low Kick Point, the Reckoner makes itself a formidable foe for goaltenders looking to make the big save.
RIBCOR Lineup
The price point RIBCOR lineup has also been update to include its counterparts – the 48K, 46K, and 44K. Those of you who aren’t in the market for top-end stick and can still expect that great RIBCOR feel and pop throughout the lineup. All three sticks feature a power taper ratio of 3:1, an SXX2 blade on the 48K and 46K, and an SXX blade on the 44K. The entire line offers that Low Kick Point for those quick release shots.
Final Thoughts
The biggest update to the RIBCOR lineup is the PopMatrix Technology, and we feel it has been an vast improvement over last generation’s ribbed shaft. RIBCOR has always been about that Low Kick Point, quick release and CCM has taken it a step further with improvements in the shaft and new Ascent Blade which makes it worthy of your consideration.
