Bauer Supreme UltraSonic Goal Stick Review

While on the surface the Ultrasonic stick may closely resemble its predecessor, Bauer has made several key changes to give this new Supreme stick a more durable construction while maintaining the featherweight feel many goalies are searching for. Let's dig in.

UltraSonic Paddle

Bauer wanted to reinforce a common failure point of the 2S Pro while keeping their original envelop pushing spine design. The Ultrasonic stick keeps its full Textreme paddle construction, however, it sports a newly redesigned Ergo Spine + which features a rounded profile where the new spine attaches to the paddle; a common place for cracks to develop causing the stick to eventually break.

Advanced Carbon Layering

Sticking to the theme of durability, Bauer now uses their Advanced Carbon Layering technology which helps to keep weight down while increasing the strength and thus the durability of the carbon in the paddle. Thanks to the ACL technology, the spine is now wider and shorter without sacrificing its durability. They also thinned out the edges of the paddle further reducing weight over the 2S Pro.

The Grip

The shoulder of the Ultrasonic stick is slightly more rounded for improved comfort in hand while a new patterned grip design provides a tacky feel while remaining slick enough to slide the blocker up to play the puck or poke check with ease.

3K Carbon Shaft

The shaft is another area where the Bauer goal team made some changes. A new 3K Carbon construction is used rather than the 12K Carbon that was seen on the 2S Pro. The new shaft construction makes for better durability while giving the stick a more balanced feel in hand compared to its predecessor.

Aero Foam 3 Core Blade

Bauer kept the same blade construction seen on the 2S Pro with their Aero Foam 3 core wrapped in Textreme creating a lively and responsive blade with great puck feel. Having used and liked the 2S Pro stick, I was happy to see they stuck to what was tried and true. In my experience, the blade was always a strong point in the stick as it stayed as rigid and lively offering the same puck feel and control as it did on day one even after months of use.

Custom Options

This year, Bauer stepped it up in the custom department. You can now order a colored Textreme on the paddle as well as a number of different color zones on the stick. There are a couple curve options and paddle shoulder cuts allowing goalies to customize the stick exactly how they want it. View the Bauer Stick Customizer

Final Thoughts

Being a long-time fan of Bauer sticks, I was excited to see where they could possibly go. The Ultrasonic stick keeps what was great about the 2S Pro while improving durability and keeping the featherweight feel I along with many other goalies really enjoyed. Bauer listened to feedback about the longevity concerns many had about the 2S Pro and made the necessary improvements to make the Ultrasonic stick a truly elite stick.
