With the blocking style of goaltending becoming ever so popular, putting the rebounds as far away as possible is becoming more and more important. Vaughn improves on their new SLR2 blocker in many ways including new materials, re-designed “trigger finger design” and creating a lighter profile for their new line.
External Material
Vaughn uses a common Jenpro material on the Ventus SLR2 blocker, proven to be tough and durable for a long lasting blocker. Vaughn then incorporated their Quickslide material on the front of the blocker for when you have your paddle down, sliding across the crease. The Quickslide technology has also been used in the past as a high wear resistant material, thus increasing the durability of the blocker.
The Vaughn SLR2 uses a very comfortable palm for ultimate feel when playing the puck. The palm consists of a VX Suede palm with an antimicrobial treatment. Vaughn then adds a grip surface on the exterior of the palm to keep your hand from slipping when handling the puck or making a stick save.
Side Hand Protection
A minor adjustment to the Vaughn blocker is the tweaking of the side hand protection slightly to improve the stick positioning and placement area without sacrificing any protection. The side shield is also larger this time with a floating index finger extension for added customizability and protection.
Cuff
The SLR2 cuff remains reasonably open, featuring a free flex cuff for added wrist mobility when making saves and playing the puck.
Hand Protection
Along with the sidewall improvements, the blocking board features thicker HD foams and a full layer of carbon fiber. The back hand also features an air cushion to improve impact absorption. The fingers feature floating carbon fiber finger guards to protect from any awkward shots and pucks riding up the paddle.
Colors Available
The Vaughn Ventus SLR2 blocker is fully customizable and comes in select colourways such as white/red, white/blue and white/black/silver.

More times than not, the fit of your Goalie Blocker is often overlooked. This is likely the result of the limited size availability compared to other pieces of equipment, however a properly sized Blocker provides you the protection and stick control you trust.
Which Blocker Size is for you?
The first step to finding the correct Blocker size is to utilize the “heel-of-palm-to-tip-of-middle-finger” measurement. This measurement will generally send you to the appropriate size you need.
Analyzing the Blocker Fit
It is important to ensure that the fingers tips lie close to the seam of the palm, or within 0.5” if the Blocker is for a young growing goaltender. Next you want to ensure the adjustable wrist strap goes directly across the wrist bone, and has minimal to no interference with your chest protector. The goaltender should be able to swivel their wrist to accommodate a range of save selections without any restrictions from the chest protector. You also want to ensure that the goalie can maintain control of their stick in addition to being able to maneuver the blocker when handling the puck.
Which Hand Do I Need?
Figuring out which hand you need for your Blocker can be slightly confusing. Goalies generally refer to themselves as "REGULAR" or "FULL RIGHT". Below is the easiest way to simplify which hand you need.
