Any goalie who drops into the butterfly a hundred times a session knows why they exist. The leg pad covers the front of the knee, but the inside of the knee and the gap above the pad open up every time you go down, and that is exactly where pucks and sticks find you.

Knee pads sit between your leg and the pad, so the two have to work together. Something too thick changes how the leg pad rotates. Something that slides out of place leaves the gap it was meant to cover. Fit around the thigh and behind the knee matters more than how much foam is stacked on the front.

Strapping, foam layout and coverage dimensions are not published for the ION, so check the photos or have a look in store. It comes in junior, intermediate and senior, the usual goalie split by age and leg length.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0020/1585/4658/files/knee-pads-vaughn-ion-senior-knee-pads-1263814235.jpg?v=1792549078
