With feedback from their lineup of pro goalies, CCM has created the lightest Extreme Flex pad to date. The CCM Extreme Flex 3 leg pads are designed with new features, as well as smaller detail changes. While CCM has new Speed Skin Technology, for our THS Spec we opted for traditional Jenpro.
The Optimized Weight Distribution (OWD) Core System is designed to place the center of mass below the knee. Like the Premier leg pads, the E-Flex 3 pads also are designed with a thinner thigh rise; the width reduction in the thigh rise results in a lesser weight, making up and down movements that much easier and the pads less cumbersome.
QK5 strapping is designed to close the 5-hole quicker. How does strapping do this? Well, studies done by CCM and the University of Western Ontario show that your pad strapping directly impacts your speed to the ice. To optimize this action, QK5 strapping features two leather straps one below the knee and another at the top of the calf and two Velcro straps one knee strap and a calf strap. This leaves, essentially, from mid-calf to the foot strapless, because those straps restrict the pad's rotation.
The E-Flex 3 leg pads also feature a couple new changes. The straps are made of nylon webbing, which is lighter than traditional cowhide by 10 to 12 percent per strap. Nylon is now used in more areas where Jenpro was for a "quality" purpose; being the lightest E-Flex leg pad yet, performance is key.
