Intro & New Features
With the Ventus SLR 2 Pro leg pads Vaughn continues its modern pad line to give a similar feel, but with upgrades to improve the already great value that they provide. With features like the bungee toe ties and the Quickslide trickling down from the SLR 2 Pro Carbon pads, the SLR 2 Pro senior goalie leg pads are sure to offer exceptional performance for their price range.

External Material
For the Ventus SLR 2 leg pads Vaughn has added their Quickslide technology which increases the slide considerably over weave leather or traditional jenpro. This is one of the key upgrades taken down from the SLR 2 Pro Carbon.

Internal Construction
The internal foams of the SLR 2 Pro senior goalie leg pads is a full foam core internal structure, which provides a more solid blocking surface and a more predictable rebound due to the fully flat front surface.

Pad Break
Vaughn’s SLR 2 Pro is a no break pad that features a pre-curved design to ensure proper five hole closure in the butterfly, as well as surface area maximum coverage.

Boot Angle
The boot break of the new Ventus pad is a 60* angle which sits much higher on the foot than Velocity model Vaughn pads. This will provide a more “on top of foot” modern pad feel that does an excellent job of putting pucks to the corners in the butterfly.

Knee Cradle
The large widened knee cradle of the SLR2 pads ensures the goaltending is landing solidly on the stack when going down, while being free enough to allow for proper pad rotation in the process. The knee cradle also features a suede surface to stop slipping which is helped by the angled velcro strap as well.

Knee & Thigh ProtectionThe SLR 2 pads rely on seperate knee protection as they do not include a knee pad or a thigh protector in the box.

Strapping
The strapping of the SLR 2 pro pads is very similar to their older sibling the SLR. The Rotation Control Strap, which is a key strap to the way the SLR fits is still included. This strap allows for a tight fit that still reacts appropriately when the butterfly is initiated. The boot strap has also been switched from leather to a synthetic material that allows for more precise adjustment.

Toe Taper
Keeping with the modern goal pad style, the Ventus SLR 2 offers a 90* toe taper to allow for the most effective seal to the ice when in the butterfly, as well as the most stability while down on the ice.

Sizes & Colors
Our store stock will feature 32+2, 33+2, 34+2 and 35+2 available in White, White/Black, White/Blue and White/Red. Custom orders are not available.

Goalie Leg Pads Sizing

Deciding your Goalie Pads size is crucial for having total control while moving in the crease. Sizing your pads properly is the difference between getting that perfect seal on your butterfly, and feeling clunky or unprotected in the net. Below we have compiled some information to better assist you in deciding which size is right for you.

Floor-To-Knee Measurement
Your Floor-To-Knee measurement will give you a good indication as to what "Pad Size" you will need. This measurement can be matched up with the provided sizing chart above.

How to Measure your Floor-To-Knee

    1. In your bare feet, place the soft measuring tape at the inside of the bottom of your foot.
    2. Slightly bend your knee.
    3. Run the soft measuring tape up your shin, to the middle of your knee.
    4. Match your Floor-To-Knee measurement with the provided sizing chart

What to look for when trying on your new pads.
Once you have your new leg pads, you’ll need to make sure they fit you properly. To do so, you’ll need to put the pads on with your skates. There a couple things to do to check size, once you have the pads on:
1. Stand straight and bring your feet together. This will show you the overall height of the pad, while on. Your pads should not be taller than your hips. Ideally you want the top of your pad at the half-way point of your thighs. A pad fitted for a young growing goaltender can be a little taller, so a little above the half-way point is normal.
2. Next you want to get in your stance, keep your hands in a ready position, and drop to your butterfly. Without moving your legs to correct your butterfly, bring your heels together. This is where you assess your knee position. For a proper fit, you want the middle of your knee to sit directly on the center of the knee stack. If you’re looking for growing room, you want the middle of your knee to land roughly 1.5” below the center of the knee stack (1” for JR).

Not getting a complete seal while in your butterfly?
If you're having trouble getting a full seal in your new pads, it may be the way you’re strapping them up. Make sure your boot strap and top straps (above knee) are loosened up a bit. The reason you want these straps loose is because they have a direct effect on the rotation of the pad. Having a loose boot strap makes it easy for your foot and ankle to rotate as the pad moves. Same goes for the top straps, as you don't want them pulling down too hard on the thigh rise.

Great Pad But Cheaper Details

Hi there. I’ve been a Vaughn goalie for many, many years. I’ve tried everything but always seem to come back to Vaughn. I recently purchased the Vaughn Ventus SLR Pro Senior Goal Pad. Used it for the first time today. I was very impressed. Excellent quality, light weight and surprisingly flexible for a flat-face butterfly pad. Looks good too. I play a hybrid game (with some butterfly) so this pad suited my style perfectly. To me, it’s a “best-of-both-worlds “ pad. However I was very disappointed with a couple facets of the pad. Despite a 16% ($130) year-over-year price increase, I was surprised to see that Vaughn used some cheaper, less effective parts. 1) On last year’s SLR SR pad, the individual Vaughn lettering on the outside sidewall was made from Clarino and individually sewn but this year they used a heat transfer vinyl. It looks very cheap. 2) The new bungee toe tie was frustratingly difficult to undo. I have already replaced it with a Velcro solution. And 3) They are using a smaller, cheaper plastic clip for the Reactive Control Strap. I found it much harder to do up and almost impossible to release. In general, I love the pad but was very surprised that Vaughn took such a backward step in terms of parts quality.

Over 30 years of pure hockey passion.
