CCM Super Tacks AS1 Gloves Review

Written by: Landon Foley

With CCM having just released the new Super Tacks AS1 protective hockey equipment lineup, it’s only natural that the update in the Tacks line extends to the gloves as well. The CCM Super Tacks AS1 gloves replace the previous generation Super Tacks, and offer the top of the line protection products in the Tacks line have become accustomed for, along with a feel that is matched by few gloves on the market today. Let’s get right into the details of CCM’s newest glove.

CCM Super Tacks AS1 Gloves

AS1 Glove FIT

Following in the footsteps of the original Super Tacks, the Super Tacks AS1 gloves have an anatomical fit, being quite snug around the fingers and the hand before opening up closer to the wrist. Those who love a tight, snug glove will love the fit of the Super Tacks AS1.

When I first tried the gloves on right out of the box, I was impressed with the snug and extremely soft feel, especially in the palm, although the gloves as a whole were quite stiff. This was nothing to worry about, however, as after 30 seconds of being broken in, a glove that is built on providing elite level protection became very comfortable.

One important thing to note is that CCM has always traditionally had gloves that fit a tiny bit smaller than other gloves on the market, and the AS1 is no different, so that may be something to keep in mind when selecting your size.

Protection

The trademark technology of CCM’s Tacks line of equipment, D30 Smart Material, is featured throughout the backhand and the fingers of the Super Tacks AS1 glove, instantly providing some of the best protection on the market. PE foams and inserts are also provided throughout the glove, giving the entire glove pro level protection that is also lightweight.

Mobility

In order to provide enhanced mobility in the wrist, CCM has introduced a segmented flexcuff with the AS1 gloves. When trying on the glove, I found that the cuff is extremely flexible, allowing for a great amount of freedom of movement. As well, CCM has brought back the 2-piece Pro Flex thumb, making it easy to move the thumb when handling the puck.

Durability

Built with pro level polyester, the CCM Super Tacks AS1 gloves provide durability while still remaining lightweight. As well, CCM has improved the amount of reinforcement on the pro clarino palm, helping icrease palm durability through extended use. As somebody who used the original Super Tacks gloves, palm durability was something that was a bit of a weaker point, so I am glad that CCM is on top of ensuring that their products are continuously improved.

Final Thoughts

Designed with the idea of offering both elite level protection and incredible feel, the CCM Super Tacks AS1 gloves accomplishes the job of providing a pro style glove that stands out for the right reasons. With a snug fit around the hands and a lot of freedom of movement for the wrist, as well as providing increased durability, the Super Tacks AS1 gloves will be a favourite choice for many players.
