Bauer Re-Akt 200 Helmet

For 2017, Bauer has launched the newest model in their helmet line up, the RE-AKT 200. It features a new shell design, new foam technology, an updated tool-free adjustment, and a customizable occipital insert.

There are a lot of new technical features to talk about on the RE-AKT 200, but what stood out to me was the fit. Although the fit of any helmet will always vary by individual, the RE-AKT 200 offers another great fit option to choose from on our helmet wall. Let's have a closer look at the new features.

Custom Fit

Accommodating a proper occipital lock is important and the fit in this area of the head can vary a lot between individual players. The RE-AKT 200 has a new spring-loaded dual density foam piece that self-adjusts to each player's unique occipital shape.

Bauer's big talking point is the FIT PLATE - this is a removable insert that is heat moldable. The designers at Bauer were looking to provide a custom fit feature that provided a more secure fit as well as added comfort. The FIT PLATE material is an updated version of the technology found in Bauer's SPEEDPLATE insoles. This recovery alloy material is remarkably moldable once it is heated.

In order to custom fit the FIT PLATE, we heat the insert up using our skate ovens and then insert it back into the helmet so it molds to the player's unique occipital bone shape.

It's important to note that you don't have to custom mold the FIT PLATE in order to use the RE-AKT 200 on the ice but I'd recommend it if you're looking for that extra little bit of comfort.

Internal features

The RE-AKT 200 has a slightly larger outer shell to accommodate some new and some returning foam technologies but it still has a great pro look to it.

The integration of industry leading lightweight VTX, XRD Foam and advanced molded foams create Bauer most innovative liner to date.

These new foams deliver maximum high energy performance in the rear of the helmet while also providing impact protection against side impacts through a combination of XRD foam technology, a new injected soft liner foam and localized shell stiffness.

Let's have a closer look:

Next generation Suspend-Tech NG liner

The Suspend-Tech is a multi-density foam liner that moves independently from the inner foams of the helmet. It adapts to your head for a unique fit and maximum comfort.

Final Thoughts

Although this will now be the most expensive helmet on the market at a listed retail price of $349.99, it's great to have another customized fit option to offer players that are serious about head safety.
